Spoiler-Free Mini Review:
Queen of Tears was always destined to be a hit. The drama was created by the scriptwriters that blessed us unworthy mortals with Crash Landing on You, The Legend of the Blue Sea, and My Love From the Star. And the director-- he gave us Mr. Sunshine. And the cast is stacked with talent. Need I say more?

Queen of Tears is like a Korean Telenovela and really leans into soap opera tropes. The cinematography was fabulous but theThe fisheye effect was a little disorienting. Keep an eye out for the many easter eggs and actors from other shows like Crash Landing on You and Vincenzo.

I didn't love the character of the Male or Female Lead at the beginning, but both grew on me so much. What a journey.

The elephant in the room: Kim Soo Hyun (the Male Lead Actor) is a very controversial star. Queen of Tears aired (and I watched) before the controversy exploded, with outlets alleging that he dated a significantly younger minor actress who tragically died by suicide. Recent news articles as of July 2026 claim that he has been cleared of these accusations as much of the evidence was proven to be doctored, but many still feel that the water is murky. I don't feel like I know enough about this situation to say anything informative, but I am truly saddened for the late Kim Sae-ron regardless. Whatever the case may be, I hope that justice is done and the focus can be returned to honoring her life. It feels weird to even breifly discuss such a heavy topic on a review about a K-drama Comedy, but I think it's something to be aware of.
