Welcome! Read Between the Subtitles began as a Mega Spreadsheet I would send around to friends to give recommendations, information on parental guidance ratings, and as a way to share my thoughts on what I was watching. In 2026, I upgraded my spreadsheet to a blog to better provide reviews and recommendations.
Subtitles can feel intimidating when you aren’t familiar with foreign language entertainment, as is the case for many in the United States. With Read Between the Subtitles my goal is to encourage people to engage with entertainment in other languages and provide context for cultural and language nuances that can be lost in translation.

Hey there, fellow drama addicts! I am a lover of the full alphabet of dramas, from C to K, and an avid defender of subtitles over dubbing! I’ve loved BBC period dramas since I was a kid and embraced the world of foreign language media in 2023 and haven’t looked back—if I look away, I’ll miss what’s happening in my show! I am based in Utah and to my great shame, I only speak English. I created this blog to review and recommend dramas while diving deeper and exploring the nuances that can get lost along the way. I dabble in all genres, but I have a special affinity for period dramas. I am a Research Scientist by trade with a background in history, and when I’m not watching “just one more episode”, you can find me questing for the perfect chocolate chip cookie or scrolling on goodreads.

Drama Reviews
My drama reviews analyze Narrative, Acting, Production Quality, Ending Satisfaction, and Enjoyability (scale can be found on Rankings Page). All reviews are my own opinion and are written in good fun (and not by AI, although I do suspiciously use Em dashes). I am not a film or drama critic, but I do have eyes and lots of time on my hands to enjoy dramas and I hope to make recommendations to fellow watchers that are worthy of their time. Because these dramas can be seriously long. All of my reviews provide information on Parental Guidance, as many foreign dramas don’t have robust information regarding content and age appropriateness easily available online. Spoilers are clearly marked, never fret!
