About

I love nothing better than a regency romance, and full disclosure: I am a 2005 Pride and Prejudice film defender. But I do know there is more to life and more to watch than Mr. Darcy’s hand clench and I have just begun diving into the world of European foreign language entertainment.

This section contains far too many English films and dramas, but I’ve got to shout out my OG period dramas. And whether you love the mini series or the film, I’m sure we can all put that aside and unite in trepidation over the 2026 P&P Netflix adaptation.

Where on earth can I watch Period Dramas these days?

The rise of streaming has been the downfall of my European Period Drama viewing. Because why on earth does one need so many different streaming services to watch a man walk forth through a misty meadow to a fair maiden rocking a bonnet?

  • BritBox: Largest (allegedly) library of BBC period dramas.

  • Acorn TV: More international and mystery focused but has a nice helping of frocks and fripperies.

  • Netflix: Boasts the largest selection of foreign language dramas and produces original period dramas in which history is oftentimes nothing but a silly suggestion.

  • HBO Max: More modern Period Dramas.

  • PBS: Masterpiece Classics can be found on PBS, along with an endless amount of Agatha Christies.
