Spoiler-Free Mini Review:

Hold on tight spidermonkey, for a crazy romantasy where a hilariously petite female general chases down a horse on foot, while pursuing a Chinese Vampire, who, when punched in the heart, can turn into Venom in a white wig. Shadow Love was indeed trash, but it was my kind of trash. I feel like the booktok girlies would eat this up.

But why did I actually like this though? Maybe it's because you can't show a millennial lady a man with pale foundation running through the forest, smashing down trees, and drinking the Female Lead's delicious blood, and not have her thinking about Twilight. I was indoctrinated young. I have no defense against pale vampires. Maybe I too was brainwashed by the Jacuzzi of evil.
Shadow Love was a strange mod podge of superhero energy, courtly shenanigans, but mostly romance, and I had a good ol' time. I actually loved all the couples. The Female and Male lead had EXCELLENT chemistry throughout the entirity. My biggest critique of the romance is that it was the ML's whole personality for a good chunk of the show, and while I love that for our girl, it would have been nice to diversify his interests. The second lead couple was pure adorkable and I'm so glad the drama went the way it did with their story.
The Female Lead (FL), although being so skinny she looks 2D, didn't do the worst job of playing a female general. Song Yi (FL) got a lot of flack for being too girlie, but it was refrshing to see a female in a male dominated field who didn't have to change who she was be accepted. I liked that she was more girlie. And I thought her skirts were fire. I mean, she served lewks with her epic outfits and once again, outran a horse. What else can you ask for? 2025 was the year of the three female generals: Shadow Love, Fated Hearts, and Legend of the Female General. I'd put Song Yi's performance in second place.
Story= 3.75 (IDK I liked it. Stop judging me.)
Acting= 3.75 (Not bad per se-- The FL actress wasn't super convincing as a general, but she was likable. I liked that her character kept her feminine qualities. All the actors who played royals were terrible)
Production Quality=4 (The sets felt like studio sets, but I liked the outfits and CGI)
Ending=4 (No complaints)
Enjoyability= 5 (Don't ask me questions, I have no answers for you. This feels like another Princess Silver situation but I was immersed)
