Fated Hearts C-Drama Poster with Li Qin and Chen Zheyuan

Title:

Fated Hearts (2025) 一笑随歌

Platform:

iQIYI

MDL & Douban Rating:

8.7 & 6.7

Genre:

Period Idol Romance

Episode Count:

38

Parental Guidance Rating:

PG: Okay, in what universe? I'd say between TV-14 and TV-16 for torture, and lots of blood and violence. It's all very cheesily done, but it's still excessive. The vibes were off for me.

Starring:

Li Qin (Joy of Life)

Chen Zhe Yuan (Chasing Dreams)

Xia Meng (Rebirth)

Chen He Yi (Princess Royal)

Zuo Yao (My Journey to You)

Qin Tian Yu (Threads of Destiny)

RBTS Rating:

4.6/10 Stars: A dark romanticization of a Wuxia with an enemies to lovers romance that explores the thin line between love and hate by means of a couple very twisted relationships. Li Qin was cool as usual, though.

Cast From Left to Right: #LiQin, #ChenZheYuan, #XiaMeng, #ChenHeYi, #ZuoYe

Synopsis:

When Jinxiu Kingdom is on the brink of defeat in the battle at Pingling, the female archer in red, Fu Yi Xiao, shoots an arrow at Susha's eldest prince, Feng Sui Ge, turning the tide of the battle. But Yi Xiao accidentally falls off a cliff shortly after and loses her memory. After Yi Xiao is rescued by the Ling family of doctors of the Righteous Villa, she unexpectedly reunites with herold enemy, Sui Ge. Looking at the mess Yi Xiao is in, Sui Ge infers that it must be related to his predicament in the battle at Pingling. Sui Ge wants to use Yi Xiao to find out the truth behind the scenes, while Yi Xiao wants to use Sui Ge to survive under heavy pursuit. So the two, who were mortal enemies a month ago, must now rely on each other to survive in the turbulent Yujing City, and their love secretly blossoms through countless near-death experiences. The seeds have been sown, and amid the hatred, betrayal, deception, unrequited desire, and inability to let go, everyone is both a player and a pawn. Yi Xiao and Sui Ge can only work closely together in the storm to overcome the dark conspiracy, break the shackles of fate, live up to the people’s expectations, and not let each other down. @MDL

Spoiler-Free Mini Review:

I don’t know who Fated Hearts was made for, but it was not me. The first half was all about romance, but then the story became plot, resulting in the Female Lead and the main relationship taking a back seat. The drama felt similar to another 2025 female general led project, Shadow Love, but it didn't have the warmth. There was just a diabolical amount of torture. The two leads are truly enemies to lovers, and the show explores the line between love and hate through all the couples, and even leans in with the platonic relationships.

First off, this director and his big lights need to be stopped. Cut the electricity, hide the bulbs. Do what you must. I've really enjoyed a few dramas I've seen from him, but no more sir. You don't need to JJ Abrams our eyeballs. Secondly, The 2ML is supposed to be a general, but I could, with confidence, fistfight him and win. *Siri, play the Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.* At least the FL, skinny though she may be, made a much more convincing general than either of the MLs. Fu Yi Xiao (FL) was the best character of Fated Hearts and was my reason for completing, although the latter half treated her like a secondary character. She is fierce, capable, and refuses to be bogged down, and Li Qin most def won the battle of the female general dramas that occurred in 2025.

Chen Zhe Yuan (ML Actor) was very Chen Zhe Yuan, but he did have good chemistry with the Female Lead. Feng Xi Yang (2FL) drove me nuts and her relationships were distasteful, and felt like the dark romantasy books I see advertised on booktok. This type of story is one very popular these days and really does have a robust audience, but I am just simply not the target. Chen He Yi (2ML) also drove me nuts both in character and in performance. As usual.

At least it was nice to see Qin Tian Yu and Zuo Yu take on bigger roles, but again, wasn't loving the characters.

There is some intrigue in the story and it was both super popular and well received when it came out, but for my own preferences, the drop off of storylines (looking at you, Storm Alliance), twisted romance of the secondary couple, excessive torture, and sidelining the FL made this a skip for me.

Fated Hearts C-Drama Poster

Story= 3 (enemies to lover’s w/ a whopping side of crazy) , Acting=2.75 (ehm. Yikes. But homegirl gave effort.),Production Quality=2 (All of the lights in the world won’t make that director JJ Abrahms. Sound and sets not great but camera quality is good), Ending=2.5 (Focused too much on the side characters), Enjoyability= 2.5 (Was excited for it to be done.)

The similarity is uncanny! These two pictures look like they're from the same drama lol Left: LofFG, Right: Fated Hearts

Trailer:

Director: #ChuYuiBun (The Starry Love, The Long Ballad, Story of Kunning Palace, Blossoms in Adversity, Moonlight Mystique)

Screenwriter: #QingMei (Everlasting Longing (that makes so much sense lol), Louyang)
