Spoiler-Free Mini Review:
Threads of Destiny is hands down the best "mini" drama I've seen. I ate this up. The story follows the rebirth of two rival sisters after failed marriages who swap grooms in their new life in which they constantly try to outwit each other. The protagonist is Jiang Xue Ying (FL), the "good" sister, and I loved her. She is no-nonesense and is in a constant state of just being over everyone's crap. She's not afraid to catch you outside, how bout that. Xue Ying (FL) is a capable schemer who doesn't need to rely on a man and is determined to live freely this life around. Acting opposite from her is her sister, Jian Yu Er, who is mostly incapable of learning from her past mistakes (lol). She is the "evil" sister to a T, and she would have benefited from watching Hannah Montana in her youth, because “Life is what you make it, so lets make it right” was the food for thought she needed to hear. (I was today years old when I found out the lyric is actually "let's make it rock", as I was looking for a GIF to add. But the point still stands). Mu Le En did a fantastic job portraying her and actually gave her some depth towards the end.
I thought I was going to hate Lu Jun Xing (ML), but I actually really liked his character and thought the leads were so well matched and adorable. He has so much trust in the FL, and it was hilarious watching him trying to woo our stone cold heroine.

The dramas world building is so unserious; I mean, the ML is the crown prince of Prince Manor, which is confusing because he is in fact not THE crown prince. In terms of narrative, this isn’t a continuous story, but more of a series of sceneries strung together with a repetitive algorithm: A past life perpetrator schemes against FL and FL retaliates like the straight up G she is. But it gets me every time.
Fair warning: Some of the content was more "edgy" with the "evil" sister and her man child husband, but it's still in the PG-13 realm.

Story= 4.5 (Really Enjoyed. These shows know how to provoke an audience and then hit them with w/ a quick dose of dopamine when the heroine outmaneuvers them), Acting=3 (Fine), Production Quality=4.5 (Excellent for being a mini drama), Rewatch Value=4.5 (yes), Ending=5 (no complaints), Enjoyability= 4.75 (binge watched this in a day).
A Note On Mini Dramas:
Mini dramas are usually between 24-30 episodes long, averaging around 10-20 minutes in length. In recent years the distinction has lessoned with the introduction of "Vertical dramas" (100 eps, 1 mn each) and "Short Dramas" (3-24 eps, 30 mns each).
They generally take between 25-40 days to film.
They have smaller casts with "lower tier" actors, less costume changes, and fewer set locations due to considerably smaller budgets (usually between 500,000-1 million USD).
They generally release 3 months after completion of filming.
The lead actors are often individuals who take guest/support roles in full length dramas
Mini dramas are often "edgier" due to more lax censorship, as they almost never air on television, but are strictly released on the web. Because of the shorter timeframe, the material is made to garner shock views so the stories heighten the emotional stakes, with fast paced romances that can lean darker. But they are still censored.
Choppy transitions and plot-holes are expected (lol).
Mini Dramas are rated quite low on MDL. Anything above a 8 is excpetional, and I usually go for mini dramas that are above a 7.4 rating, which is the average. Anything below a 7 is probably the stuff of nightmares.
