Spoiler-Free Mini Review:
Blossom was the surprise hit of 2024, thanks to the meticulous cinematography of Zeng Qing Jie, who would later go on to direct 2026's biggest drama, Pursuit of Jade. This was his first take on a full length drama after a serious of successful mini dramas, and the man slayed. He took the modest budget and put actors who were usually second leads on center stage, and said watch me run. The most exciting part of Blossom's success was not just that it was an underdog, but that you can tell no money was wasted and the intention to create good art was realized. Which was a bright light, in the darkness of that was 2024 drama slop.

As I was watching on Viki, a comment popped up that said: "Why was there a soldier holding a branch? This show is not meticulous, but I like it." And try as I might, I couldn't sum it up better. Blossom was not perfect-- Both the FL and 2FL, and honestly everyone else to a lesser extent, were facetuneto high heaven, the dubbing wasn't the best, too much attention was given to the side characters towards the end, and the director must have been afflicted with nose contour blindness because the lines on both men and women were sharper than Song Mo's spear.
But these are small critiques in the grand scheme of things. The story had good pacing and the shift from romance/revenge to political intrigue in the second half was nicely handled. The leads were independent people who brought different strengths to the relationship and they were convincing in love. And maybe a little too convincing for internet, because these two cannot shake off the dating rumors to this day. While their real life status is a mystery, the pair will actually be reunited as an onscreen couple in (presumably) 2026 in Tigers Sniff the Rose.

Lastly, I need to address the Blossom in the room. So many shows have the name Blossom in the English title, regardless of wether it relates to the Chinese title or the show, and I just cannot:
2023
Blossom in Shanghai
2024
Blossom
In Blossom
Blossoms in Adversity
Blossoms in Dream
2025
The Blossoming Love
In the Name of Blossom
2026 (So far)
Blossoms of Power (Also stars Meng Zi lol)

Story=4 (Solid), Acting=3 (Passable), Production Quality=4.5 (gr8 4 budget), Ending=5 (satisfying)., Enjoyability= 4 (Enjoyed) Would I rewatch= Yes
