Synopsis:
Princess Qi Pa wakes up to find herself abducted into the fantastical and surreal world of the Beast-Turning Tribe. She is forced into becoming the bride of the Beast-Turning King, Kui Mu Lang. Despite Qi Pa's repeated attempts to escape, her life is further disrupted by a man named Li Xiong. Li Xiong only appears during the day, and Kui Mu Lang only appears at night. The Princess and the Werewolf is the sequel to Go Princess, Go!, but can be watched as a standalone. Fun Fact: The K-Drama Mr. Queen is the remake of Go Princess, Go!. After looking through pictures of the original, it seems that they toned down the zany this go around. Kudos.
The drama is a very silly Beauty and the Beast-esque Xianxia about Stockholm Syndrome and finding beauty beneath the surface. Princess Qi Pa was a fun, albeit frustrating "Belle" of the kingdom, who accidenly swallows a super powered pearl and is whisked away from her home by the ML in an attempt to get it out. The problem with this is that to do so, she must first fall in love with the owner, Kui Mu Lang, which is even more awkward because he has ombre blue hair, black finger tips, and is poisoned. I couldn't take Chen Zhe Yuan seriously at all. His look was just so silly.
The drama felt like a Disney Channel Original movie, which can be a fun time when you're looking to mindlessly relax, but we whimsied a little too hard. I think this is more suited to younger viewers who are looking for a Chinese alternative to Descendants or Halloweentown (very specific, but I don't judge).
