Non-Spoiler Thoughts:

Ever Night was really fun, but the romance had some weird vibes, and while it's not a big part of the first season, it still gave me the ick. Which is unfortunate, because this is one of the cooler Wuxia's I've seen since I started my C-drama journey, with quality practical effects, complex side characters, interesting lore, and grounded world building. And there's practically a magic school! I love a magic school!

In Ever Night, we see newbie Arthur Chen's first steps as a Nepo baby actor and it's the only time I've felt that he really fit the role. The stars were aligned. But they just had to make it weird. The weirdness stems from the fact that Ning Que (ML) rescued Sang Sang (FL) when she was a BABY and raised her as his younger sister, and then she fell in love with him (also that actress is 7 years older than him lol)? Uhhhh. I am so tired of the fake sibling to lovers pipeline. We need to Veto it immediately.

Ever Night still with Arthur Chen as Ning Que and Irene Song as Sang Sang.

Still, the drama was an authentic Wuxia, though zero dollars were spent on wigs, and too many men looked like they were in an 80's rock band. There is a side character that, I kid you not, looks exactly like the emo host from the Great British Bake Off. I know they can't be the same person, but they are, and I feel it's important to note.

I didn't know Noel Fielding acted in China

There is a season 2 of the drama that swaps out Arthur Chen for Dylan Wang, with a good chunk of the cast returning to their original roles, but I will not be checking it out.
