Spoiler-Free Mini Review:
Way Back Love is a short and contained exploration of grief, survivors guilt, and depression. After deciding to end her life, Jung Hui Wan (FL) is visited by the deceased Kim Ram U (ML), despite his transformation into a grim reaper who cannot interfere with the living. The drama was filled with melancholy in the present and comedy in flashbacks. You really get a sense of how Kim Ram U's death destroyed Jung Hui Wan.
Kim Min Ha (FL actress) excelled at playing a character a the end of her rope, as did Gong Myoung as a caring guardian angel. I really enjoyed Min Ha as the lead.
The drama splits its time between high school flashbacks and present day adulthood, although none of those actors can pass for a high schooler.
Way Back Love really isn't a romance, but a reflection on loss and an exploration of what remains. The story had promise, but didn't move me like I thought it would. But it fit perfectly in six episodes, had great cinematography, and a wonderful message that life is worth living.
