Synopsis:
The story takes place at the beginning of the 19th century. Goo Hae Ryung is an intern to become a palace historian. However, it was not acceptable for women to write historical records at that time. She takes one step at a time to create her own destiny in Joseon, where Confucian ideas are deeply rooted. She wants to fulfill her duties as a historian and prove to the world that everyone is equal. Along with the fight of the female palace historians, the drama will tell about her romance with Prince Yi Rim who has a secret of his own. @MDL
Spoiler-Free Mini Review:
Rookie Historian is a Period Romance with slapstick comedy and fascinating themes that explored gender equality, identity, and accountability. The most interesting part of the drama was Goo Hae Ryung's (Female Lead) role as a historian, and the importance of it in Joseon society, rather than the romance.
The romance was solid and it allowed Yi Rim's (ML) character to grow, but I wasn't swooning. At one point, I too thought herring boo was a eunuch lol. There is only a 6 year Noona age gap between the ML and FL actors, but the Female Lead felt so much more mature than him. I wasn't impressed with the second couple, nor the acting of Park Ki Woong as the Crown Prince. Lee Ji Hoon slayed as Min U Won though. What a great character.
I don't have much to write about the drama becuase it didn't make me feel that much. It was generally fine with some thought provoking ideas that were never fully explored. A better choice for a Joseon romance than many of the period fare out there, but not exceptional.
Why was the eunuch is always out in these streets screaming?
