So... I know I'm wrong about not liking True Beauty. My sisters and friends who have watched it, all love it, so truly don't take my word for it. I have unexcellent taste and I know this. I'm so sorry.
True Beauty is the 10th most popular drama on MDL and has a reputation for second lead syndrome, but my personal issue is that I had no lead syndrome. I just never cared. Everything about the drama is over the top. This poor girl can’t even step foot outside her house without being physically attacked for having acne. Imagine a Disney channel original movie with darker themes like suicide and bullying where you’re constantly pelted with secondhand embarrassment, but it's okay. It's all a comedy. If I think too hard, I'll spiral. Too many cringe moments for me. And I hate the notion that this girl wearing makeup is somehow deceiving people, or that it's wrong for it to give her confidence. It's like when men act surprised when a girl’s eyelids aren't actually emerald green. Like, it's eyeshadow bro.
Maybe I'd like this more if I were a teenager...in the 1990s. I tried to so hard to hold on until the time jump, but I couldn't. I've tried on three separate occasions to finish, but it's not in me. I surrender.
Story=2 (Could've actually used some wokeness), Acting= 2 (Didn't love the FL in this, but I like the actress in other shows. The ML just stared at her. I don't know if I can call it acting. There was simultaneously overacting and no acting all all), Production Quality=2.5 (low camera quality), Enjoyability= 2.5, Recommend= This is a high school show for younger people. I am too old & crotchety.
Why I dropped:
Too cringey
Leaned too young for me
The drama felt over the top
It gave take her swimming energy
