Synopsis:
Set in Sanpo Village where more people leave than remain, the three Yeom siblings, Chang Hee, Mi Jung, and Ki Jung, wish to escape from a life rife with uncertainty. A mysterious man, Mr. Goo, moves into their neighbourhood. He is a drunkard with the look of someone with many burdens and secrets. His cautious personality and preference for keeping to himself make him the subject of gossip. Mi Jung, the youngest and most timid Yeom sibling, decides to approach him. @MDL
Non-Spoiler Thoughts:
My Liberation Notes is an incredibly slow and thoughtful drama, packed to the brim with amazing dialogue that explores the mundane and downright depressing of everyday life in a way that doesn't sugar coat things, but treats it to its best angle. The drama is written by the same screenwriter as We Are All Trying Here and My Mister, so the vibes are indeed depressing, and much second hand embarrassment will be thrust on your eyeballs.
Though Yeom Mi Jung and Mr. Gu have INSANE chemistry, this is really not a romance, and if you go in thinking that, you will probably be disappointed. The drama is especially geared towards viewers in their 30's, but the message and philosophy transcend age.
One of my favorite quotes of all time is a line from Mary Oliver's poem, Red Bird: "I did not come into this world to be comforted," which I think sums up the message of the drama quite nicely. But it was also how I felt while watching it, which after a long day at work never felt like the way I wanted to wind down lol.
I aspire to finish this one day... maybe?
Story=5, Acting=5, Production Quality=4, Ending= 3, Enjoyability= 3.5
Why I dropped:
Lots of second hand embarrassment
Yeom Chang Hee was a tough character to swallow, but he's so true to life.
It was a little depressing
Very SLOOOWWW moving plot
