Synopsis:
At the eerie boundary of Yin-Yang Ferry, where the mortal and spirit realms collide, a series of gruesome murders signals the awakening of ancient, malevolent forces. Liu Fu Feng, a thousand-year-old willow tree spirit and the ferry’s guardian, senses the return of a long-lost, treacherous bond. Her suspicions center on the newly arrived magistrate, Bai Shan Jun, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the demon who once betrayed her. Though Shan Jun is a skeptical mortal who dismisses the supernatural, he is forced to investigate these impossible crimes to save his own life. As he digs deeper into the mysteries of the ferry – from cursed talismans to shape-shifting entities – his path becomes inextricably linked with Fu Feng’s fading essence. Spoiler-Free Mini Review:
I will admit, I watched You Have My Heart solely for Hankiz Omar (FL Actress). I was impressed by her performance in the unimpressive Moonlit Order, so I was excited to check out her other work, and even more so, since this project is helmed by the Threads of Destiny Director.
Overall, the drama was fine. It didn't reach the binge-ability of Threads of Destiny, but also didn't bite the dust, so I will take it. I loved the character of Liu Fu Feng (FL); she was level headed, powerful, and a great leader. The world building of Yin-Yang Crossing felt eerie and fun, and though the ML wasn't a man of riz, he wasn't unlikeable. The two had good chemistry, but there was too much wishy washy back and forth nonsense. I'm also just so used to Zhu Zheng Ting (ML Actor) playing a bad guy, that it really threw me off to see him as a protagonist. I wish the villain had been more involved in the story, and while the narrative did suffer from inconsistent characterization and a low budget, it got bonus points from me for not being spicy. And that is truly a win for a mini.
I wish there hadn't been so many many squelching noises and subtitles, that coupled with the really bad production quality (with snow that can only be seen from one window lol) and abruptly ended storylines, plummeted my rating. It's an ok time if you have time, but I don't think a complete watch of the series is necessary.
