Synopsis:

Spoiler-Free Mini Review:
Snowy Night Timeless Love isn't your traditional Wuxia; it's less action focused and more filtered, with CGI taking precedence over practical effects. The narrative is a bit on on nose with its cold and genius physician, Xue Zie Yu, who literally suffers from a cold disease (lol), and finds herself de-thawing in the process of treating the fiery Hua Zhan Bai, who cannot stop injuring himself. Our female lead treats him over the course of years, and the two find the hope they bring each is other more precious and precarious than snowflakes.
While Xue Zi Ye's (LF) heart frozen in the past (figuratively, and also literally. Her hearts desire is frozen in a lake lol), she is the freezing cold heart of the show. Her character was complex, independant, and meloncholy, and she had to make some tough choices. Joseph Zeng as Huo Zhan Bai was fine, but he didn't match up to the acting prowess of Li Qin. And his high waisted sashes were a choice. But his character kept a level head, and I liked their relationship, though I do think she had more chemistry with the other characters.
The story did not go in the direction I thought it would, which I was bummed about. I wanted more background on the Mo village and martial arts. While the narrative has an underlying urgency, it never surfaced in tone. The drama, like the landscape, is very quiet and remote, with slower episodes that plod along as the characters go about the years (especially around the middle episodes). There is a strong atmosphere of melancholy, and the characters face a storm of challenges, with only a flickering flame of hope keeping them going. You do get the sense that one wrong wind, and it's all over. But the precariousness lulls you to sleep, just like freezing to death. You don't realize it's happened, until it's done.
Snowy Night Timeless Love explores themes of sacrifice, hope, and healing, which makes for thoughtful commentary, but not necessarily a good Wuixa. I did enjoy it though, despite the pacing issues and the MANY music video breaks (I'm talking like 3 per episode), but I understand why other's wouldn't. I think one of the biggest issues is that it wasn't marketed properly. The promotional material made a big hubabaloo about filming on location, and talked up the amazing martial arts sequences, but the drama never delivered. It was mostly filmed on set and the fight scenes weren't that many or impressive. The marketing also played up the romance, but it's really less of a romance and Wuxia, and more of a quiet story of individuals looking for a light to guide their way in a stormy world. If you enjoy Listening Snow Tower, I think this would be your vibe. This is less crazy though, which thank goodness lol.
Story=3 (Passable but empty), Acting=3 (Passable, FL gave her all), Production Quality=3 (Some cool fight scenes), Rewatch Value=2, Ending=2.5 (Passable but disappointing. Have those tissues at the ready)., Enjoyability= 3 (1/2 of it dragged, but i finished)
