RBTS Rating:

6.5/10 Stars: A Wuxia with a layered story that gets tripped up by a tangled romance and wooden acting. But there is a dude who looks like a Ninja Turtle, so that's fun. The drama had many issues, but I was seated for all 56 episodes. I have no excuse.

Spoiler-Free Mini Review:

Listening Snow Tower is one of those dramas that probably makes a better book and most book readers agree, at least from what I've seen online. The source material was extremely popular and penned by the well known Cang Yue, but the drama took liberties that resulted in a messy, divergent plot and a dismal Douban score.

The drama reminded me of Love in Between with its classic Wuxia vibe and cool fight scenes if it merged with the the low production quality and wooden female lead of Legend of Fei.

Listening Snow Tower with Yuan Bing Yan and Qin Jun Jie

Be prepared for angst and so much poisoning. The amount of times someone spits blood is unquantifiable. We've got characters looking like ninja turtles, unexpected zombies popping up, and some seriously tortured love. The 2FL's character was extraordinarily annoying and her motivations didn't really make sense, nor did Qing Yu's. Yuan Bing Yan (FL Actress) (RIP to her acting career. Pay your taxes!) didn't give us much to work with, but at least she wasn't acting like a toddler. Small victories. Qin Jun Jie did a great job playing Ziao Yi Qing (ML), who was an interesting character, struggling to balance power and ambition with love. And illness. lol.

This story has pacing problems, acting deficencies, and too much toxic romance, but gosh darn it, I liked it. I can't help it. I'm a sucker for these things. If you like Wuxia and you don't run from angst, buckle up for quite the ride.

The drama was taken off of streaming services due to the tax evasion scandal and can only be found in the USA on youtube. I'm really hoping the powers at be don't give it (and her other dramas) the Love 020 treatment and face swap her with AI. I mean she didn't give much in the acting department, but at least she met the bare minimum requirement of being human lol.
