Synopsis:
It tells the story of the soul exchange between a prince who has lost his smile and a saddle-carrying merchant who has lost her memory. Joseon Crown Prince Yi Gang, who lost his crown princess, gave up his own happiness and only thought about revenge. When Yi Gang's long-planned revenge plan finally took the first step, he met the saddle-carrying merchant Park Dal I who looked exactly like the deceased crown princess, and exchanged bodies for unknown reasons, falling into a series of chaos. @MDL
Spoiler-Free Mini Review:
Moon River is surprisingly very silly... almost too silly for me and not necessarily in a "ha ha" sort of way. The drama is a historical fantasy featuring body switching, revenge, an evil minister, amnesia, and K Drama’s most magically ominous bridge. It was stuffed to the brim with plethora of story elements, so tell me why there was constant repetition in storyline and why no character had a clear, consistent motive. The drama also suffered from too many mixed tones; you can be both fun and serious, but at a point you’ve got to commit, otherwise it will clash tonally.
Though the actors did a fantastic job at playing each other's roles, I was not here for the body swapping. I couldn't stand the way the Male Lead pouted, but he had to do that because the Female Lead pouted. But can we just not pout? Can we be adults? Thanks so much. Park Dal I's characterization was bananas. Nothing about her was consistent, and as the drama progressed, the inconsistency only grew. The actress (or director?) really interpreted poor and rural as hick, and I was not a fan. It's supposed to be funny, but it was just annoying. Because of the inconsistencies, I wasn't super into the romance, nor did I ever at any point care about the secondary couple.
While there were major flaws, the end episodes were the best of the show and there was some great acting. However, I don't really recommend due to the annoying and inconsistent characters and poor pacing. If you are looking for a body switching drama I think To My Beloved Thief and Love Between Fairy and Devil might be more worth your time.
