Spoiler-Free Mini Review:

Les Belles is a costume Rom Com in the truest sense: it is all about getting these two crazy kids together in a fictional Tang Dynasty setting. The french name is a mystery, but the story follows our beautiful Female Lead as she tries to find herself a man who is willing to marry into her family (aka a matrilocal husband), while the Male Lead seeks revenge in a side plot. It's so funny how often these stories have a fill in the blank plot for the female lead, while the Male Lead is always just getting revenge on the side. But I digress. The FL is known for her memorable beauty and tries to use it to her advantage, but hilariously fails to wield it against Lu Yun (ML).

I found her the perfect matrilocal husband lololol

Lu Ling Yu (FL) was such a likable character with an admirable "can do" spirit. She and her younger sister were adorable, and even when she was laying it on thick, I was rooting for her. Lu Yun was a green flag ML, who annoyed me a bit at first (honestly, so did the FL now that I think about it), but then grew on me once he accepted Lu Ling Yu. It was fun watching them "chase" each other.

No one was winning any Oscars, and there was many a frozen face, but Les Belles wasn't trying to be a grand masterpiece, and the result was a pleasant background watch with some good laughs. It wasn't quite as funny as Royal Rumors, but lands in the same ancient rom com/filler category. My biggest critique of Les Belles was the poor pacing; the story stalls in the middle, but does bounce back.

If you are looking for a background watch, or something that doesn't require much brain power and doesn't have too many episodes, I would recommend.

Story=3 , Acting =3.5, Production Quality=3, Ending=5 (very cute), Enjoyability= 3.5, Recommend= Yeah, if you have time to kill
