Spoiler-Free Mini Review:
Before you dive into Are You Human (Too)?, ask yourself if you are willing to ship a robot and a human. If not, this is not for you. Seek entertainment elsewhere.
However, if you are willing to suspend your disbelief, then strap in for a tale of romance between a machine and a person that will have you rooting against humanity lol. The drama is very much a product of its time in terms of storytelling and camera work. It felt very nostalgic with its many 2010's hallmarks .The vibes were giving live action Manga with how cartoonish everyone acted, but it's surprisingly just an original screenplay. If you can get behind the artificial and cartoonishness, and accept that it's just the style of drama, then it's a fine, mindless watch.
I so wish the drama had gone full comedy or even partial comedy, but the tone was (unfortunately) committed to being dramatic. Imagine I'm Not A Robot, but without the comedy... things feel a bit grimmer, don't they. Also, the Male Lead's "mom" character made no sense, for reasons that are spoilers, but UGHHH.
I watched this for Seo Kang Jun (ML Actor), who really impressed me in When the Weather is Fine, and he did an excellent job with his dual roles. Lee Jun Hyuk once again plays a reliable fellow, and I liked his take on Ji Yeong Hun. The romance with Kang So Bong (FL) was very adorable, and the two made a cute couple. I wanted Gong Seung Yeon (FL Actress) to go more comedy, but she can only do what the script allows. Boo. Seo Ye Na (2FL) was the epitome of a second female lead. She was in love with the Male Lead... for reasons. What those are, who the heck knows lol.
Are You Human (Too)? is a Sci Fi straight outta the 2010's that took itself too seriously, but a great cast with a believable bond saved the show.
Story=3 (Fine, with the caveat that you root for the human and robot romance, and ignore the plot holes), Acting=3.5 (The ML did a great job), Production Quality=3 (Fine. Of it's time), Ending=3 (Bit of a cop out), Enjoyability= 3
